You can buy french onion soup mix in any local supermarket. But, if you don't have french onion soup mix, this can be substituted with onion flakes, beef stock powder / bouillon, freshly ground pepper, onion powder and parsley flakes.
This recipe is also best for a pie filling, the meat is so tender and perfect for your pies.
How to make Beef Chuck French Onion Soup
Ingredients:
- 1 kg beef chuck cubed
- 40 g french onion soup mix (1 sachet)
- 1 cup celery chopped
- 1 cup onion chopped
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 1/2 cups beef stock
- 1/2 cup green cupsicum - optional
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a large sauce pan. Sauté onion and garlic until softened.
- Add beef pieces fry gently until color turns to medium brown.
- Add celery, beef stock, french onion soup mix and soy sauce.
- Let it simmer for 1 hour at low heat. While stirring occasionally.
- If you want the gravy thickened let it simmer until reach desired thickness.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve with mashed potato or garlic bread.
